Dan Patrick mentioned announcer Ernie Harwell this morning, talking about players traded for managers. In 1948, Ernie was traded for Dodger player Cliff Dapper, Ernie going from announcing Atlanta Crackers games to replacing Red Barber in the broadcasting booth while Red was sick. Ernie left the Dodgers after the 1949 season (with some guy named Vin taking over him) and moved to the Giants. The rest is history and Ernie tells the story in Ball Talk. This clip is Ernie talking about Tigers great Al Kaline. As I write this, it will be the Tigers against the Cards or Giants in the Series. Go Tigers!
